Parkinson’s LSVT BIG
At Greendale Physical Therapy, LLC, we specialize in providing services to individuals with Parkinson’s Disease. LSVT BIG is a specific program we offer that is designed to improve the quality of life for those living with Parkinson’s. The goal of LSVT BIG is to help individuals with Parkinson’s Disease to improve their movement quality, range of motion, balance, and strength. The program is based on research that has shown that large-amplitude, high-intensity movements can help to improve movement and function in those with Parkinson’s.
How it works
The LSVT BIG program is completely customized around each patient’s specific needs based on progression of the disease. We’ll work together to design the perfect treatment plan for you. During each session, participants complete repetitions of a series of exercises that are designed to progressively challenge movement and coordination. The exercises are performed at a high intensity, and participants are encouraged to “go big” with their movements.
The goal of the program is to help individuals with Parkinson’s Disease improve their movement and function. In clinical trials, LSVT BIG has been shown to improve walking speed, balance, and quality of life.Studies have also shown that large-amplitude, high-intensity movements can increase brain activity in those with Parkinson’s.
Who it’s for
The LSVT BIG program is appropriate for anyone with Parkinson’s Disease who is able to safely participate in a high-intensity exercise program.Because of the intensity of the program, individuals with severe limits in strength or mobility would not be appropriate candidates for the LSVT BIG program.
What to expect
The LSVT BIG program is a challenging but rewarding experience. Participants can expect to work hard and feel a sense of accomplishment after completing each session. The program is designed to be progressive, so participants can expect to increase their intensity and difficulty as they progress through the sessions.
Benefits of LSVT BIG
Some of the benefits that participants have reported include:
- Improved walking speed
- Improved balance
- Improved coordination
- Improved quality of life
